Who We Are
The InterBeing Lab, directed by Dr. Tuyen Huynh, works with families and community partners, with the goal of advancing contemplative science— including mindfulness, self-compassion, and mindful parenting— to support family health. Grounded in health equity and population health, our work centers in equitable, community-engaged partnerships that empower caregivers and promote the well-being of families and young children.

Our work is grounded in the belief that resilience is rooted in relationships. As such, through our work, we hope to equip caregivers of young children with in-the-moment, practical mindfulness techniques to reduce their stress and support their emotional well-being, so they can be more present during interactions.
Promoting Compassion for Caregivers & Children
Caregivers often extend compassion to their children and family, but it can be challenging for them to practice compassion for themselves–also known as “self-compassion.” Our work emphasizes the importance of caregivers’ self-compassion as more than just a “quick self-care practice”, but as a critical aspect of increasing their capacity to be more present in their family relationships/interactions. Greater physical and mental presence is more likely when caregivers are able to care for their own emotional needs.

My research interests lie at the intersection of developmental and forensic psychology, focusing on how human development shapes legal outcomes and behaviors within the justice system. By examining how Adverse and Positive Childhood Experiences (ACEs and PCEs) alter cognitive, emotional, and social development across the lifespan, I aim to strengthen support systems and interventions for vulnerable populations.
