OUR RESEARCH
Why Participate In Our Research?
Help us Make an Impact on Family Resilience
By joining our research efforts, you will play a crucial role helping us advance the scientific understanding in ways in which contemplative practices, such as mindfulness, self-compassion, and mindful parenting can support whole family health and promote community resilience.
Community & Families as research Partners
The Interbeing Lab team cares about the well-being of young children and the caregivers who support their early childhood development. Therefore, we strive to scale and provide access to culturally-relevant mindfulness-informed programs to address the health concerns identified by the communities and families.
Empowering caregivers with Young children
Through our research, we aim to help caregivers gain valuable knowledge, and applicable skills in mindfulness and reflective, culturally-relevant caregiving strategies that will make a positive impact on caregivers, their children, and their communities.

PROJECT ONE
Minoritized Parents’ Reflective Capacities Study
A correlational study to examine the preventative value and relevance of parents’ reflective capacities (mindfulness, self-compassion, reflective functioning) in the family processes of racially/ethnically minoritized parents. Data collection for this study has concluded, but data analysis is ongoing to disseminate findings via manuscripts and conference presentations.
PROJECT TWO
Cultivating Intentional Mindful Educators (CHIME) Program
CHIME is an 8-week mindfulness-based program that promotes greater emotional well-being among teachers and educators. Funded by the USC Center for School Behavioral Health, data is collected from early childhood educators (ECEs) to assess the need for the CHIME program in South Carolina. Learn more about the CHIME Program here.
PROJECT THREE
CHIME+ Families Intervention
In equitable partnership with community partners, we are working together to culturally tailor the CHIME program for implementation with marginalized families with young children in South Carolina. Learn more about the CHIME+ Families Program here.
PROJECT FOUR
A scoping review of the Circle of Security-Parenting (COS-P) Intervention
COS-P has been widely implemented, but research evidence has lagged. Using an implementation science framework, RE-AIM, a scoping review is conducted to understand the impacts of COS-P on families and the limitations to the program’s effectiveness and reach across contexts and populations.

InterBeing Lab
InterBeing Lab focuses on whole family health by increasing caregivers’ intrapersonal and interpersonal well-being with effective reflective practices, such as mindfulness, self-compassion, and mindful parenting. Our ultimate goal is to increase caregivers’ capacity to promote stronger positive childhood experiences for young children and family relationships.
